Windows - Archiving Event Logs

Overview: Windows does not archive event logs automatically so it’s a good practice to do it manually on a scheduled basis.

1. Right-Click MY COMPUTER.
2. Scroll to MANAGE.
3. Under SYSTEM TOOLS, expand EVENT VIEWER.
4. Right-Click each log and scroll to SAVE LOG FILE AS.
5. Save each log with an easily identifiable name, e.g. YYMMDD – APP, YYMMDD – SEC, YYMMDD – SYS.
6. Reminder: Event logs cannot be saved across a network. They must be saved locally first, then can be moved elsewhere.
7. It's also a good idea to burn the archived event logs to CD or DVD in the case of data loss due to system failure.
