Certificate - Exporting a User's ECA Certificate

Overview: VeriSign recommends that you back up your ECA certificates and keys in case you need to move them to a new computer or restore them if they become corrupted. You can export them to a floppy disk or CD by following the instructions below. You should store the floppy disk or CD in a secure place such as a safe or lockable cabinet.

1. Click on TOOLS and scroll to INTERNET OPTIONS.
2. Click on the CONTENT tab.
3. Click on CERTIFICATES.
4. Under the PERSONAL tab, highlight the digital certificate that you would like to export.
5. Click EXPORT.
6. The Certificate Manager Export Wizard will open.
7. Click NEXT to initiate the export process.
8. When the Wizard asks if you want to export the private key with the certificate, select YES, export the private key.
9. Click NEXT.
10. Under Select the format you want to export, choose Personal Information Exchange - PKCS #12 (.PFX). Check the box stating Enable strong protection. (Enabling strong protection will only work with IE 5.0, NT 5.0 or higher.)
